Necessary Media partnered with start-up company Otamot Foods to create brand and product videos that support their mission to change the way we eat everyday foods.

Our founder, Lani Neumann, has 15+ years producing and directing for major networks such as MTV, OWN, The Travel Channel, and TLC. Her portfolio includes global brands like Swedish Fish, Budweiser, Almay, and Mountain Dew as well as comedians, Broadway performers, and boutique business owners.

The Client

Necessary Media was hired by Otamot Foods, a start up company with plans to change the way we eat everyday foods, to make videos for their company and product launch.

In pre-production, we worked with the founders on their brand message, purpose and then the video content to support those goals.

Project Goals & Objectives

  • Support product launch by connecting with parents who struggle to feed healthy foods to young kids and driving potential customers from social media to the company website
  • Position product as a cool new “life hack” for parents, increasing share-ability and organic reach
  • Expand consumer awareness and trust through relatable, easy-to-consume video content that evokes a sense of “Yes! Somebody finally gets me!”
  • Build brand loyalty by showcasing the founders’ vision and mission within a powerful product story

NM was thrilled to work with exciting new startup Otamot.


The founders of Otamot have a dream of changing the way we eat everyday foods, one sauce at a time. We partnered together to create launch videos that would get consumers excited about their company and inspire them to purchase their life-changing product.


To achieve our client’s goal, we focused on telling a meaningful story that connected the Otamot brand with parents struggling to feed healthy foods to young kids.

Our strategic approach included:

  • Positioning Otamot Essential Sauce as a cool new “life hack” for parents
  • Creating relatable, easy-to-consume video content for stressed-out parents
  • Showcasing the founders’ vision and mission as part of a powerful origin story for the Otamot brand

NM designed, directed, produced and edited a gorgeous, high-end video campaign that resonated with a targeted audience, illustrating the unique value of Otamot while increasing brand awareness, website traffic, and sales.

Eric Veras
Director of Photography

Born and raised in the Bronx, Eric is a Director of Photography, camera operator, and portrait photographer based in New York City. His work has taken him from the chill of the Arctic Circle in Northern Alaska to the depths of the Grand Canyon Caverns— all to get the shot.

Eric has  DP’d for an extensive list of networks, including Discovery, TLC, A&E, MTV, Lifetime, Bravo, Refinery29, Vice and Showtime. His most recent TV shows include Say Yes to the Dress, BBQ Pit Wars, Girl Code and Ghost Adventures.

Mike Lawrence
Director of Photography

Mike is a cinematographer based in Brooklyn, New York and Los Angeles, California.

His passion for cinematography began in high school, when he shot his first short film . From there, he studied film at the University of Colorado, Boulder, and spent more than 15 years =applying his cinematic vision to docu-series, commercials, music videos, short films, corporate films, and many other visual formats.

As a cinematographer, Mike has created the visual style for a number of series from nearly every major television network, including Freeform’s The Letter and A&E’s The Haunting Of…, Married at First Sight, and #Blacklove

Bethany Heinrich
Director of Development, Writer / Producer

An award-winning film producer, Bethany has worked on a number of  acclaimed projects, including the humanitarian documentary CHILD 31(endorsed by Celine Dion, Annie Lennox, and former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown), ARCADIA(starring Oscar nominee John Hawkes and Winner of the Berlin Crystal Bear Award), and the coming-of-age web series TWENTY FIVE (nominated for the Independent Series Awards).

She has also worked with WNET NYC Public Media, Mogul, and the MoMA.

We are proud to collaborate with the gifted storytellers at STACK during our post-production process.

Hello! I’m Lani Neumann, Founder of Necessary Media.

I’ve been hooked on visual storytelling since I was a young kid. Specifically, it was the moment I experienced the timeless, classic film, Rocky on the big screen for the first time.

The story of an underdog from the streets fighting for a chance to be a champion is nothing new. But the way Stallone played the character, the doc style camera work, the music and the images – they all made me feel like I knew Rocky. As a young girl from suburban Sacramento, CA that was pretty awe inspiring.

It was then I knew I wanted to learn how to create that same awe inspiring feeling for as many people as possible.

I started Necessary Media to tell necessary stories in a necessary way. To bring powerful, diverse, inclusive stories to the largest audiences possible.

Our development strategy is intentional, focused, and executed by experts trained in television-quality production. That means you receive network-worthy videos without a network budget.

As a video production company, we are determined to make a difference.  Like the movie that started it all for me, we celebrate the fighters, change-makers, and champions in all of us.
